First, our students told us that one of the added side benefits to coming together for basic training at the beginning of the first quarter was a deep camaraderie and a sense of shared experience. They have suggested we increase the live, in-person, face-to-face training opportunities. So we did.

In 2013, at the beginning of each quarter we will have a live training weekend. These weekends will be free for students that make the trip to Los Angeles, and for international students and others that can’t make the trip, we will stream the weekend training live online with two-way communication.

Second, several of our courses did not really contain enough information to justify the time spent in class, and a few others had way too much information for the time allotted. We’ve combined some classes and extended others as needed. See our 2013 course schedule here.

Third, we have decided to keep our very low per-unit price from 2012 and continue it for the 2013 students. Because we are not about making a profit but rather about making a difference, we will keep our pricing much much lower than any nearly comparable training for Hypnosis Practitioners. We say “nearly comparable”–but in reality, there are no comparable training programs that we are aware of.

We offer a challenging professional curriculum that covers areas of education omitted by other trainers. Courses like Critical Thinking, Psychology, Law and Ethics, Anatomy and Physiology, Neurology and Psychopharmacology, Research Methods, and Evidence-Based Interventions are unique to HPTI, yet we feel they should be required training for any Professional Hypnosis Practitioner. Virtually all other training programs are about learning how to do hypnosis the way the trainer does. They are essentially one dimensional, and even if the trainer is good, they offer only one perspective on the profession. We incorporate courses from a diversity of teachers and trainers. Many are among the best of the best in their own right. You will learn many different perspectives on the profession so that you can form your own unique approach to the work.

Many one- or two-week programs charge twice the price we charge for a year-long curriculum. Most longer programs charge five or six times our tuition fees. At full tuition, the cost of attending HPTI is about $200 a month, paid as you go. We send you an invoice two weeks before the start of each class, and all you have to do is click the pay button.

The full cost of our year-long, 57 unit program is $2444. The program consists of:

80 hours live, in-person training; plus
120 hours live, online interaction with world-class instructors; plus
370 hours of on-demand video lessons; plus
200 hours internship.

That works out to $3.17/hour of instruction. Compare that to a two-week, hundred-hour course costing $3000 ($30/hour of instruction).

No one is prepared to be a Professional Hypnosis Practitioner after two weeks.

Every graduate from HPTI is a fully prepared, highly skilled Professional Hypnosis Practitioner with advanced knowledge not taught elsewhere.

And finally, we have decided to offer a generous tuition discount program for the Winter 2013 class admissions. As part of our mission to provide superior training at affordable cost, we strive to provide opportunities for qualified motivated students to gain the best possible training for the profession at a cost that is manageable.

2013 is going to be a great year for HPTI, and we hope you’ll consider being part of it.

Here are some of my thoughts on the course for you to use how you wish.

Being at the halfway mark of the HPTI course, I am taking a mindful moment to reflect on the past 6 months and wanted to drop you a note. So where to start?

Firstly, I have attended many courses, seminars, retreats of all shapes and sizes, some being better than the others but I have always managed to get at least a small nugget of wisdom out of them. When I heard of the HPTI course and who was running it, I was very excited and knew I wanted to be part of it. I had very big expectation from the course as the curriculum made many lofty claims of delivering a well-rounded and comprehensive education on the subject of people helping. The aim was to not only teach you comprehensive methodologies on a multitude of subjects but most importantly prepare you to actually practice. There are so many 3-5 day courses that claim they are the best in the world, that leave a huge void with regards to actually putting the tools into real life practice.

What attracted me the most was the simplicity of the approach, we will teach you and provide you exposure to a “whole” range of protocols, techniques, thinking, theories, practice, and won’t be preaching from one sermon only. This approach is refreshing and without bias, making it a welcomed first for me.

So, has it lived up to its claims?

There are many levels to this answer so will break it down into the most important categories for me:

Content:

There are “THIRTEEN” modules for this course, ranging from Law and Ethics to Anatomy and Physiology – from NLP to Regression to Cause. The content is created and delivered by individual and specialist instructors in that field. Therefore the content ranges tremendously according to the subject, the instructor and the delivery method.

The content has minimum requirements of video, direct interaction with instructors either through webinars, email and some instances phone, there is usually reading assignments that can vary from manuals, online reading or books, quizzes, exams, projects and reading assignments.

The biggest challenge is keeping up with the material but having it available 24/7 makes it much easier.

Instructors:

As mentioned above, each instructor is an expert in their field, like Roy Hunter and Regression to cause/Parts Therapy, Richard Nongard on Contextual Hypnotherapy, Michael Watson on NLP, Michael Ellner on history of hypnosis, Scott and Richard on Introduction to hypnosis and many more. It’s not just a video course and reading that you get access to. It’s direct access to the instructors as well, each module has allocated time slots for conference/webinars to discuss and interact with them which makes it invaluable as there has been so many time previously that I have seen a video or read something and needed clarification but there was no one to ask.

One of the great things about this approach is that our projects, exams and quizzes are created by each instructor and are marked by each instructor. The questions we ask are answered by the instructor of the module who is the expert on the subject.

Quality:

There has been a lot of thought gone into putting this school together. Scott and Richard have definitively thought long and hard as to what would create a well-rounded practitioner.

The quality of the material has varied throughout the course from module to module. If I had to rate it from a 1-10 (where 10 was brilliant), I would have to say that the majority so far was above 7-8.

This is not to say that I didn’t disagree with some of the content or that there isn’t room for improvement but with regards to getting a multilevel view of what’s available, it’s unmatched.

Variety:

One of the concepts that Scott and Richard discussed from the very beginning was about being unbiased towards protocols, methodologies and practices. And that they would allow the student access to the information for them to decide what was appropriate for them or not.

With this in mind they have included pretty much every modality within the realm of hypnosis practice. From Critical Thinking to Contextual Therapy, from Mindful meditation to Pain Management. The only thing I think they are not covering in great detail is stage hypnosis.

Imagine doing a weekend still life drawing course versus an arts degree. There is so much great content within each of the modules that I will need to refer back over and over again to gain further insights.

Length:

The feedback around some of the modules is we need more time to learn to use the ingredients to fully savour the dishes. Some of the modules were 2 weeks in length which was way too short. I believe this has already been rectified for the next year.

Support and Resources:

I think that Scott and Richard have bend over backwards to support and help the students. Knowing that they both run full practices and yet they always put in so much time for us.

The main mode of communication has been through the forum and email. Although skype and telephone is also available. During the module the instructor is available for any question or query and these are typically addressed in the webinars for the benefit of all.

The students for this year’s course come from all walks of life. Yet there has been a wonderful bond created in our common spirit to improve ourselves to become better people helpers. We have supported each other in many ways and it’s amazing to see that HPTI is fostering this kind of learning environment where students can discuss, disagree, share insights, share worries, share disappointments and inspirational stories.

Value:

This is really quite outstanding. If they charged 3-4 times more, I still belief that it would be the most valuable asset that you could have as a people helper.

Summary:

This is an outstanding endeavor by Scott and Richard whose fruits we as students have been privileged to be part of. It really is a great foundation for any individual wanting to excel at his/her craft. The reason I say foundation is not because it’s basic but because each engineering feat required a solid foundation to sprout it’s wings and sour high into the air.

I am humbled to be part of this school and very proud for what it’s trying to achieve. To provide the utensils and ingredients to make us into Master chefs as well as tell us how to run a kitchen. It’s up to us to decide what type of restaurant we would like to open, what type of food and service we provide.

Our fees are currently far less than comparable career training programs and are even lower than many community college fees. While many of our classes will be live and interactive online, there will be pre-recorded aspects of many classes in order to afford our students a flexible schedule for viewing the lecture components. And because we want to ensure that our core learning courses are fresh and dynamic, we are going to teach our first 3 courses: HYP100 – Introduction to Hypnosis; HYP101 - Hypnotic Language, Script breakdown and creation; HYP102 - Pre-induction, client intake and pre-talk, LIVE in person to capture lecture material for future classes.

Once accepted you will be allowed to enroll in the school for one year. If all course work for the program is not completed by the end of that 12 month period, you will be required to enroll for an additional year to complete required courses.

Enrolled student will be allowed to register for classes in the current quarter and will be allowed to register for classes in the following quarter one month prior to the begining of the quarter. Unit fees are paid per course and are due at time of course registration.

We do not accept full payment of total program fees in advanced and it is the student’s responsibility to register and pay course fees for individual courses prior to the first day of instruction for that class.
